05 May 2026, Brussels, European Parliament
As part of European Mental Health Week 2026, the European Parliament Intergroup on Mental Health hosted the event “Stronger Together for Mental Health: The EU’s Next Steps” at the European Parliament in Brussels on 5 May 2026.
The event brought together Members of the European Parliament, EU institutions, civil society organisations, frontline workers, and mental health stakeholders to reflect on the progress of the European Commission’s Comprehensive Approach to Mental Health and discuss the next steps for mental health policy across Europe.
During Panel 1, “From Commitment to Impact: What Has the Comprehensive Approach Delivered?”, Hannes Jarke presented the ongoing work of the REMESOS project, particularly in relation to reinforcing mental health systems and improving access to treatment and care.
As part of its work, REMESOS is currently reviewing thousands of scientific publications and national policy documents to better understand how positive mental health and well-being are assessed across European countries and languages. The project aims to build a clearer picture of existing approaches to population mental health measurement across Europe.
The findings from this work will contribute to future discussions with experts and stakeholders from different sectors to help identify practical and feasible ways of measuring and monitoring population mental health at the European level.
In parallel, REMESOS is implementing the Guided Functional Peer Support (GFP) model, an evidence-based community mental health intervention currently being adapted and introduced in Portugal, Greece, Slovakia, and Bosnia & Herzegovina. The initiative focuses on strengthening accessible, community-based mental health support and promoting resilient and mentally healthy societies across Europe.
The event formed part of wider discussions on the future of a stronger and more coordinated European approach to mental health, including prevention, social rights, community care, psychosocial support, and social justice.
REMESOS is proud to contribute to these ongoing conversations and to support collaborative, evidence-informed, and community-based approaches to mental health across Europe.
